A.C.W. CENTRAL MEETING MINUTES

June 7th, 2010

President Ruby Heidel opened the meeting with prayers with eight members present. Rosemarie gave a couple of readings: The first reading was based on John 20 regarding the folding of the linen cloths in which Jesus’ body was wrapped. The second was a light-hearted reading about the “New Alphabet” – written especially for seniors: A is for Arthritis, etc.

Moved by Rojeanne Chadwick, seconded by Pat Hargrave to adopt the minutes of the previous meeting as read.

FINANCIAL REPORT

Bank balance as of May 31st, 2010

Chancel balance:               $ 759.78

Life Membership balance:     140.51

ACW balance:                    9001.09

  TOTAL bank balance:    $ 9901.38

Moved by Rosemarie Katzell, seconded by Evelyn Foster, to accept the financial report as presented. Carried.

Moved by Pat Hargrave, seconded by Joyce Schell to give $3000.00 to Vestry for July and August. Carried unanimously.

CORRESPONDENCE

  1. The MuseLetter from the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad was received.
  2. Thank you card received from the PWRDF 50th Anniversary Refugee Committee thanking us for our donation of money raised at the last Lenten Lunch.
  3. Letter from CIBC – to be discussed under new business.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Prayer Partner:  no report

Kitchen – the ‘cradle’ was purchased to hold the water jugs in the kitchen.

Social Action:   May 3 – Catered the Bridge Banquet for 20 people.
                       May 11 – finished pie making for the summer.
                       May 14 – Tea for Shut-Ins at River Heights Lodge.
                       May 26 – Catered at Meadow Sweet Manor for 17 people.
                       May 26 – Funeral Tea for Elaine Witham for 200 people.

Life Membership:  no report

Sunday School  – yesterday (June 6) was their final day and the young people did the scripture readings. The theme was: Fully Rely On God and the Sunday School put on a puppet show, and gave out little frogs to everyone. They served ice cream sundaes following the church service.

Vestry :   (May 13th meeting) Members approved the changing of the light bulbs in the entire building – to energy efficient T8’s. Reverend Peter has been visiting but it is going slower than he had hoped. Bishop’s schedule is still unclear. Choir Gown cupboard is installed. The floors in the parish hall and kitchen have been buffed and the carpets cleaned. Discussion re: Refugee Luncheon. Agreed to purchase a two drawer filing cabinet for the envelope secretary. “Back to Church Sunday” will be September 26 across the Diocese. Discussion re: involving young people in all activities: baking dainties, assisting where ever they can. Parishioners are encouraged to write letters to City Council encouraging support for an assisted living facility in our city.

HOSPITAL & SHUT-IN VISITING:
Pat Hargrave has been visiting at BDCC and at RHL. Rojeanne Chadwick visited with
Clara Clarke at the Villa Pascal Tea on May 30th.
Birthday cards were handed out to be distributed over the summer.
Fran Bunko has been transferred to Saskatoon for rehabilitation.

OLD BUSINESS:

  1. Refugee Luncheon – was very successful and quite an informative event.
  2. Mother’s Day Tea – numbers were down but was successful.
    The secretary sent thank you notes to Milbanke’s and to Junice Headley.
    We all agreed to ask Junice to play another time.
    Suggestion to have a silent auction at the Mother’s Day Tea next year.
  3. Shut-In Tea at River Heights Lodge - Ruby Heidel thanked Pat for a wonderful afternoon. The residents had a nice time.
  4. Fellowship Supper – St. George’s have agreed to host but the date is undecided at this time.
    St. Paul’s are responsible for bringing dessert. Angel food cake with a variety of fillings will be served. Cakes will be brought by: Ruby Heidel, Rosemarie Katzell, Evelyn Foster and
    Marj Morrison.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. B & D Meats - the owners are doing the meat trays and buns differently than we’re used to for funerals. All members agreed to try somewhere else the next time.
  2. Letter from CIBC – Rosemarie Katzell had received a letter from CIBC informing us of increased service charges – even for depositing cheques and coin. Everyone agreed this was unacceptable. Rosemarie will discuss with CIBC and find out costs at other banking facilities in town.
  3. ACW Diocesan Board – want to continue the communication between Deanerys. Rosemarie Katzell will contact Lloydminster ACW to see if they would be interested in hosting a Fellowship Event, if not St. Paul’s ACW agreed to host an event in September or early October (mid week).
  4. Book of Remembrance – The following names will be sent in to be entered into the Diocesan ACW Book of Remembrance: Mollie Davis, Eileen Andrushak, Helen Elaine Witham, Elsie Dennis.
